My name is Karina Robles. I was born in the beautiful, remote Chilean Patagonia, but the strong southern winds pushed me to travel to different latitudes. I currently live and create my art in Aotearoa New Zealand.
My artistic background has been nourished by the cultural diversity of the places where I have lived. This has allowed me to participate for example in collective photography exhibitions in Chile, and, in a more formal context, I obtained a Certificate in Visual Arts and Media from the Université du Québec à Montréal, as well as a Bachelor's Degree in Visual Arts from the École Supérieure des Métiers des Arts et de la Culture INEAD-ESMAC in France.
Today, I express my artistic practice through painting. However, as a visual artist, I also have a strong connection to photography and more experimental methods of creation.
My works, mainly abstract, consist of lines and textures that follow the geometric language of mining excavations and the physical footprint that humans leave on nature.
In the same way, I am deeply interested in learning about the ancestral cultures that are still present in the different territories where I have lived.
My artistic approach is rooted in a perspective of ecological and social criticism.
